At this week’s giant robotic conference IROS 09, in Atlanta, iRobot debuted a new video of a blobby bot. Though it’s a new video, it’s of the robot from a year ago. It’s still pretty neat. Check out the IEEE Spectrum blog post here, which says that the researchers plan to add sensors. DARPA hopes to use the robot to squeeze into small holes or under doors, I’m guessing for more sophisticated surveillance.
To see what other researchers have done in the same area, check out a montage of other self-assembling, shape-shifting robots here.
