How to Make a Robotic Jack-o’-Lantern

snapolanternThis “Snap-O-Lantern” from the Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories is pretty nifty! I just carved my pumpkin but I might try this out on a smaller ‘kin. It seems pretty straightforward as far as hobbyist attempts go.

The creators carve and scoop out the insides of a mini-pumpkin and then used a small hobby motor, LEDs, a microcontroller and a few other supplies to give the robot snapping jaws and glowing eyes.

The same group also made a Rovin’ Pumpkin, whose glowing eyes and creep-and-pause action would make it a unique and scary addition to the porch for trick-or-treaters.
